Reporting from Honda Indonesia, Honda Motor Co., Ltd. and Rakuten Group Co., Ltd. began conducting demonstration trials of the jointly developed environmentally friendly automated delivery robot. The experiment was carried out around the University of Tsukuba dormitories and several public roads starting at 19 July - 31 August 2021.
The effects of the pandemic have increased the need for last-mile delivery without physical contact, Meanwhile, the delivery workforce continues to decrease due to decreasing birth rates and an increasing elderly population, which makes this a social problem, especially in Japan. To solve this problem, Honda and Rakuten are researching automatic delivery robots by utilizing robotics technology that Honda has researched for years with knowledge of delivery services from Rakuten.
On this project, Honda has a role in developing aircraft and systems as well as checking specifications and conducting technical demonstrations. This robot is equipped with a product delivery box developed by Rakuten on a chassis equipped with an automatic delivery function developed by Honda using the Honda Mobile Power Pack which is used as a power source.
This demonstration experiment was carried out with support from the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NO). In the future, Honda will continue to contribute to realizing a sustainable society by solving social problems through the use of robotics technology and further promoting the use of renewable energy.
