MotoGP series event at Pertamina Mandalika International Street Circuit on 18-20 Next March we will be preparing for free training. The Mandalika Circuit is one of four MotoGP pre-season test locations 2022, apart from Jerez (Spanish), Sepang (Malaysia), and Algarve (Portugal).
Reporting from Oto.com, This activity is highly anticipated because it is to discover more about the new machine and obtain very important data. Apart from being an opportunity for racers to try out and get used to the conditions of the circuit track, Pre-season testing is also to determine the choice of tires used.
Michelin Two Wheels Motorsport Manager, Piero Taramasso said for the Mandalika MotoGP event, Michelin is ready to test several different tire specifications, both in terms of material mixture and level of sturdiness. This must be done so that at the end of the test session we can provide the best tire options for the racers competing in Mandalika. The pre-season test session at the Mandalika circuit is planned to be held on 11 February 2022.
Tires are a vital element in racing events, including MotoGP. Accurate selection of tires with the best performance for circuit tracks, could be the deciding factor in victory. Piero explained that tires for MotoGP racing needs were developed by the technical department within the Michelin group, under the direction of the Motorsport team. The round skin has a different design from those used for other competitions.
“The speeds and temperatures reached or encountered by tires in MotoGP are much higher than in other competitions. So special specifications and designs are needed, both in terms of design and mix of materials, so that it can handle extreme driving conditions on the track,” concluded Piero.
