Otodiva – Ministry of Industry (Ministry of Industry) confirmed that the automotive giant from China, BYD, will soon set up an electric car factory in Indonesia. Even though it's a factory BYD in Thailand has started operating this week, BYD's investment commitment in Indonesia is no less serious.
Acting Director General of Metal Industry, Machine, Means of transportation, and Electronics (THE WEATHER) Ministry of Industry, Putu Juli Ardika, revealed that BYD had purchased land in Indonesia and had put down an investment guarantee. This shows BYD's seriousness in making Indonesia their production base in Southeast Asia.
“BYD is committed to Indonesia. They have bought land for industry and put up a guarantee to bring their cars to Indonesia,” said Putu in his office, Wednesday (10/7).
Putu is optimistic that Indonesia has great potential to become a center for automotive development, can even overtake Thailand. It is hoped that the presence of the BYD factory in Indonesia will encourage the country's automotive industry to develop further.
However, Putu could not yet specify when BYD would carry out the factory groundbreaking in Indonesia. The government will still monitor the progress of BYD's investment commitment throughout this year. “This year we will see how it develops,” added Putu.
On Thursday (4/7), BYD has inaugurated their first electric car factory in Southeast Asia, precisely in Thailand. This factory is part of BYD's investment worth more than US$1.1 billion which is supported by subsidies and incentives from the Thai government.
On the other hand, BYD has also obtained an import permit from the Indonesian government for three models of their electric cars, namely Dolphin, Act 3, and Seals. This permit was given after BYD stated its commitment to invest in establishing an electric car factory in Indonesia.
BYD's factory location in Indonesia will be in Subang, West Java, with an investment value of US$ 1 billion. This decision confirms BYD's commitment to strengthening the automotive industry in Indonesia and providing a positive impact on the local economy.
With these strategic steps, Indonesia is expected to attract more investment in the automotive sector and increase the competitiveness of domestic industry. The presence of the BYD factory in Indonesia is also expected to create new jobs and develop more advanced automotive technology in the country.
