Previously, news had circulated from the German media, Speedweek.com that the Mandalika Circuit will hold the second MotoGP series on 13 or 20 March 2022. Chief Strategic and Communication MGPA (Mandalika Grand Prix Association), Happy Harinto, confirmed that the Mandalika Circuit was included in the temporary MotoGP calendar 2022.
Reporting from OtoTempo, according to Happy, Currently the MGPA is fully concentrating on the technical preparation of facilities and infrastructure related to technical racing required by the FIM.
“Saat ini kami sedang mengatur Race Control elektronik yang mana peralatan ini sangat penting sekali dalam kegiatan balap. Apart from that, we are preparing to install the Modular Pit Building (Overhaul) all of which are produced from domestic products,” pungkasnya.
MotoGP season 2022 This will be the first time it will be held at the Losail Circuit, Qatar on 6 March 2022. Then the series will continue with Argentina and Texas in April 2022.
Apart from being included in the temporary MotoGP calendar 2022, It has also been confirmed that the Mandalika Circuit will be the venue for pre-season testing next year. There are two locations designated by Dorna Sports as tracks for pre-season tests, namely the Sepang Circuit, Malaysia and Mandalika Circuit, Indonesia. The plan is for the pre-test in Mandalika to be held in February 2022.
However, this is just a leak of the temporary calendar and has not been officially released by Dorna Sports. Kemudian seri yang digelar di Asia juga bisa saja dibatalkan apabila kondisi pandemi Covid-19 masih belum terkendali.
Apart from holding MotoGP racing, The Mandalika Circuit will also hold the world superbike racing championship (World Superbike/WSBK) in the middle 12-14 November 2021.
