Hagglund belongs to the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) lowered to the location of the eruption of Mount Semeru, Lumajang Regency, East Java. PMI received direct orders from PMI General Chairman Jusuf Kalla to lower the vehicle to help with the evacuation process. PMI Central Headquarters Infrastructure and Infrastructure Bureau staff dispatched two Hagglund vehicles to Lumajang, on Sunday 5 December 2021 evening from Cileungsi, Bogor Regency.
The two Hagglund units are expected to arrive at the Lumajang Regency PMI Command Post on Monday, 6 December 2021, siang. Under the operational control of PMI Lumajang Regency, Hagglund plans to carry out a search operation for victims.
PMI Lumajang will place the two Hagglunds in two different positions. One unit will be in the access position to Candipuro subdistrict and another unit will be in Pronojiwo subdistrict, namely access via Ampelgading sub-district, Malang Regency. The two units are located on two sides of the Gladak Perak Bridge, Curah Kobokan Village, Candipuro Lumajang District, which was cut off due to being hit by cold lava from the eruption of Mount Semeru..
Hagglund PMI vehicles have been trusted to handle the emergency evacuation process for victims resulting from volcanic eruptions, including the eruption of Mount Merapi in 2010, the eruption of Mount Kelud in 2011, eruption of Mount Sinabung in 2013, and currently the eruption of Mount Semeru this year 2021. Hagglund's toughness will be very helpful in the evacuation process.
This vehicle owned by PMI has a shape like a snowmobile. The wheels use chains like tanks so they can cover all terrain. Then, This vehicle is also able to cross rivers at speed 4,7 km per jam. Hagglund can also traverse hot paths resulting from volcanic ash eruptions with temperatures up to 60 degrees Celsius.
The Hagglund vehicle consists of two parts, namely it can accommodate 6 passengers in the front compartment and 11 passengers in the rear trailer so that in total it can accommodate 17 people. Hagglund has a total carrying capacity of up to 2,250 kg and trailer 2.500 kg with quite wide dimensions, has long specifications 6,9 meter, wide 1,87 m and height 2,4 m. Hagglunds are equipped with a capacity Ford Cologne V6 engine 2,8 liter integrated with the Mercedes-Benz W 4A 4-speed automatic transmission system-018.
