Therefore, you as a car owner must be able to know the tire size and type of tire that suits your vehicle type and how to care for it.

This is because tires have a lifespan, when the tire has reached its age, it is highly recommended to replace it with a new tire that is suitable for the type of car you are using. It's actually not difficult to read tire sizes and specifications, because it is actually already in the code on the tire wall.

The code you must understand includes, national technical standard regulatory code, and tire metric ISO code.

The following is a discussion of national technical standard regulatory codes starting from DOT, ETRTO and TRA to E-mark. These codes are created to explain the regulatory standards of the organizations that issue their rules.

DOT

The DOT code is a sequence of alphanumeric characters embedded into the side of the tire to allow identification of the tire and its age. This DOT is released by the US Department of Transportation. However, This code is used all over the world. The DOT code is useful in identifying tires that are subject to product recalls and/or expired due to age.

ETRTO and TRA

ETRTO and TRA are 2 organizations that influence national tire standards. The second goal is to harmonize national tire and rim standards, for ERTO in Europe and TRA in the Americas.

E-mark

All tires sold are for road use in the European area after July 1997 must have an E mark. This sign is divided into "E" and "e" which are followed by numbers in a circle and/or rectangle, then followed by the next number.

“E” indicates that the tire is certified to meet performance requirements, dimensions, and ECE regulatory marking 30. “e” indicates that the tire is certified to comply with performance, dimensions, and the marking requirements of Directive 92/23/EEC.

Numbers in circles and/or rectangles indicate the country code of the government that granted the type approval. The last number is the type approval certificate number released for the tire size and type.
