Year-round 2020 is a challenging period for many sectors, including the automotive industry. This is reflected in data released by the Indonesian Automotive Industry Association (Gaikindo), where to sell cars wholesalers down 48,35 percent on 2020 compared to 2019, while retail car sales fell 44,55 percent.
"We are optimistic about the growth potential of the used car industry, But of course innovation is needed so that consumers feel comfortable and safe when choosing and buying a used car,said Aditya Lesmana, Co-founder CARRO.
CARRO's optimism was proven as public demand for used cars increased in the second quarter 2020, where in September, Used car financing shot up to IDR 56.72 trillion, and continues until October 2020, to reach IDR 58.92 trillion. This figure shows that the revival of the used car industry is almost the same as before the Covid-19 pandemic.
In the first quarter 2021, CARRO has succeeded in creating a positive trend by recording total sales of used car units above 100 percent compared to the fourth quarter 2020. And the average used car sale is dominated by MPV and SUV type cars with selling prices ranging from IDR 100 million to IDR 600 million, and dominated by cars with automatic transmission systems.
CARRO is optimistic that the trend in used car sales will continue to move positively, especially before the month of Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr 2021. This optimism stems from the national economy which is starting to gradually recover, as well as the government's efforts to suppress the increase in Covid-19 cases through the vaccination program which continues to this day.
Meanwhile, intensive PPnBM on new cars apparently does not have a negative impact on the growth of the used car industry. On the contrary, the demand for used cars is increasing, reflected in the increase in demand for CARRO used cars throughout the first quarter.
CARRO also collaborates with e-commerce Tokopedia and Blibli. Through collaboration with e-commerce partners, It will be increasingly easy for consumers to buy the used car of their choice online quickly, and supported by various types of payment options.
