Association of Indonesian Motor Vehicle Industries (Gaikindo) initially targeting sales reach 1,1 million units, however, various factors indicate that this target may be difficult to achieve.
Anton Jimmi Suwandi, Marketing Director PT Toyota Astra Motor (TAM), at a launch event for the New Fortuner in Jakarta, revealed that breaking through sales figures 1 million units on 2024 is a big challenge. Based on his calculations, National car sales this year will most likely be in the range 900 thousand units.
“If we talk about the market reaching one million units, that would be difficult. Our prediction is probably approx 920-930 thousand units,said Anton.
Anton hopes that car sales can reach numbers 900 thousands of units, However, he also emphasized that this figure still depends on market conditions in the next few months.
"We hope that sales can reach that figure, but it all depends on future market conditions,he added.
Data from Gaikindo shows that car sales are wholesale, or distribution from factory to dealer, until now reached 484.235 unit. This figure shows a decrease of 17,5% compared to the same period last year, where sales reach 586.931 unit.
Although the current sales figures are not encouraging, Anton is still careful in predicting year-end results 2024. He admitted that there were still many uncertainties that could affect the automotive market in the coming months.
“We will still calculate and see how the market conditions will be in August, September, and October. After that, we might have a clearer picture,” he said.
In an effort to increase sales, The company has launched various new products and offers a number of interesting programs to consumers. Anton hopes that these steps can help boost sales, even though the challenges are quite big.
Overall, although there are efforts from various parties to increase car sales, challenges faced by the automotive industry in Indonesia in 2024 cannot be taken lightly. Fluctuating market conditions, coupled with various external factors, make sales targets 1 million units is increasingly difficult to achieve.
