Motorbikes that are driven every day require attention and maintenance, especially on the engine so that its performance remains optimal and free of interference. One of the first steps that drivers must know is to understand the function of engine oil properly. Engine oil is an essential need that helps engine components do their work.

According to Hariadi, Asst. to Service Dept. Head of PT Suzuki Indomobil Sales (SIS), Engine oil has several functions that can support motorbike performance, among them:

Lubricate Machine Components

Engine oil is useful for lubricating engine components, minimize friction, and makes the engine lighter so as to produce optimal engine working strokes. The lighter the movement caused, then the faster the work done by the machine.

Motorcyclists need to provide the best quality oil suitable for the type of engine so that its function as a lubricant can work optimally, the machine runs smoothly, hassle-free and what is no less important is that the oil will protect engine components.

Coating the Surface of Machine Components

Machine components need to be coated properly and each component must be maximally connected to each other so that the engine performance can work more optimally. Oil has an important role as a surface coating for engine components. Oil will form a layer on every surface of engine components, this can minimize gaps (clearence) which arises due to the stretching of machine components.

Cooling Engine Components

Engine oil functions as a coolant so that moving components remain at a stable temperature. Components that rub against each other can make the engine temperature hot, However, having engine oil flowing to the components can reduce the friction that occurs so that the components remain in the normal temperature area. This keeps the components in the best condition

Cleaning Components

Oil can drain grams of components that occur from the impact of engine friction so that the condition of engine components remains clean. Dirt due to friction between engine components will be transported by the oil circulating in the engine and ultimately collected in the oil filter.. This condition will keep the inside of the machine clean because there is no dirt sticking or clumping.

Smooths Engine Noise

Engine oil has the function of dampening sounds caused by interaction or friction between engine components so that the engine sound becomes smoother. However, you still have to pay attention to the viscosity according to engine standards.

Protects from Corrosion

Oil is useful for providing a thorough coating on each component. Machine components made of metal are very susceptible to electrochemical processes or rust which is formed due to the mixing of hydrogen, oxygen and atoms in iron.

So therefore, Engine oil has the function of protecting each component from rust which causes corrosion. This causes the oil to change color to dark, which indicates that the oil has succeeded in removing dirt from the engine.
